Your final pay does not match the calculator

Before writing, check the two things that explain most gaps: whether your award or enterprise agreement pays more than the National Employment Standards, and whether your employer treated the termination as a genuine redundancy for tax purposes. If the gap remains, send us:

  • the address shown in your browser after you filled in the calculator, since it carries your entries (pay and pay period, years of service, age, state, reason for leaving, annual leave days, loading, long service leave already taken);
  • the amount your employer paid or quoted, and the payslip line it appears on;
  • the rule you think applies, with a link if you have one, for example the Fair Work Ombudsman page or the section of your state’s long service leave Act.

If we find the calculator wrong, we correct the data file or the engine, add your situation to the test examples, and describe the change as set out in the editorial policy. Some situations are left out on purpose, such as an award redundancy scale above the NES or allowances inside pay in lieu of notice; the methodology lists them.

Questions we cannot answer

We cannot tell you whether your dismissal was unfair, whether your employer’s redundancy was genuine, or how to fill in a tax return. Those questions belong with the Fair Work Ombudsman, the Fair Work Commission, a community legal centre or a registered tax agent.

When to expect a reply

Messages pointing to a wrong figure are read first, usually within a week. The data file itself is checked against its sources at least every 12 months, and on 1 July when the new financial year begins.
